A Craftovert Co. Concrete Candle Burning

How to Get the Most Out of Your Candles

Follow these guidelines for a safe, even burn with your Craftovert Co. Candles every time.

Importance of the First Burn for “Candle Memory”

The first time you use your candle can establish a sort of “candle memory” in the wax and determine how it burns in the future. Because candle memory is considerably strong in hard waxes like beeswax, it’s especially important to allow your wax to melt edge to edge on its first burn. We’ve made an incredibly long-lasting candle, so be prepared to burn your candle for a few hours the first time you light the candle. To avoid the candle tunneling down the middle, do not extinguish the candle until the entire surface of wax has completely melted.

How to Fix Candle Memory Rings/ Tunneling

If your candle was not able to achieve a fully welted wax pool on its first burn, we’ve included instructions to remedy candle tunneling with common household items to get back to an even flame. Carefully melt the memory ring of wax with a heat gun or hair dryer then remove the excess wax once softened. Dip the corner of a paper towel in the melted wax to slowly absorb excess, then allow top of candle to dry evened out. Next burn, keep the candle lit until the wax completely melts from one side of the container to the other. Once the surface of the candle completely melts, then you can blow out the candle.

How to Maintain a Clean Burning Wooden Wick

For a clean and long-burning candle, always keep wicks trimmed straight across at 1/8” in height and free from charred bits. Our hand-engraved wick trimmer is designed to help you cut your candle wicks to the appropriate height without sending trimmed pieces flying or falling into the hot wax pool. Craftovert Co.’s wick trimmers are made of rustproof stainless steel, in either matte black or shiny gold finishes, each one is engraved, entirely free-handed, by a local Denver artisan.

Safety Reminders

Always burn candles within sight. Keep away from drafts and flammable objects. Keep candles away from children and pets. Keep wax pool clean from any debris. Do not burn for more than four hours at a time. Container will be hot when candle is lit. Do not move or touch candle while burning. Burn candle on a protected, heat resistant surface. To create a safe, portable, and cohesive candle display, I recommend pairing candles with our Geometric Concrete Tray which perfectly fits many combinations of our concrete products and/or wick trimmers.
